Health Care

First-class health care choices are abundant in Bourbon County.  The primary care-to-population ratio is well above both the state ratio and federal professional health standards.

The local, fully accredited Bourbon Community Hospital is a 58-bed, acute-care facility, which offers a multitude of services.  A total of 83 doctors, representing more than 21 medical specialties, have admitting privileges at Bourbon Community Hospital.  The hospital’s 24-hour, physician-staffed emergency room treated 10,712 cases in 2001.  Many services are offered, including inpatient and outpatient surgery, orthopedics, physical therapy, diagnostic imaging, laboratory services, and respiratory therapy.  The hospital also has a state-of-the-art critical care unit staffed by experienced nurses who use the latest technology to meet the critical needs of their patients.  See www.bourbonhospital.com.  (Bourbon Community Hospital is a Member of the Chamber of Commerce).

Stoner Creek Center, which is affiliated with Bourbon Community Hospital, offers a wide variety of psychiatric inpatient and outpatient services, including a 16-bed adult unit and a nine-bed adolescent unit.

The Bourbon County Comprehensive Care Center offers treatment for mental health problems, mental retardation, and substance abuse for adults and children.  The staff, composed of psychiatrists, social workers, psychologists, and psychiatric nurses, provides outpatient services ranging from individual, group, and family therapy sessions, to substance abuse treatment and education.

Bourbon Heights is a non-profit, long-term care facility that has been a part of the Paris community since 1965.  Among the accommodations offered are assisted-living apartments, and units that provide personal care and nursing services.  (Bourbon Heights is a Member of the Chamber of Commerce).

Beverly’s Angels is a privately owned business that provides a variety of non-medical services to enable elderly people to stay in their own homes.  They will do light housekeeping, meal preparation, hygiene assistance, errands, laundry, and transportation to doctor visits, among other things.  (Beverly's Angels is a Member of the Chamber of Commerce).

Aside from the multitude of services offered locally, Bourbon County is only a few miles from Lexington, which provides specialized care options such as the Markey Cancer Center and the University of Kentucky Children’s Hospital, as well as a broad range of other advanced medical facilities.
